Midwife

Somerset is an NHS service providing a single point of access for all maternity referrals in the Somerset area. 

If you are more than 6 weeks pregnant you can use this maternity referral form to tell us about your pregnancy. It's quick and easy and just takes a couple of minutes.

Talking Therapies

If you live in England and are aged 18 or over, you can access NHS talking therapies services for anxiety and depression.

A GP can refer you, or you can refer yourself directly without a referral.

Somerset-Wide Integrated Sexual Health (SWISH) provide free, accessible and confidential sexual health services in Somerset including all types of contraception, and STI testing and treatment.

Somerset Drug and Alcohol Service (SDAS) is your local, free to access drug and alcohol service. SDAS is commissioned by Somerset County Council and delivered by Turning Point.

The SASP Health and Wellbeing Coaching service supports people with long term conditions to access physical activity in order to promote and protect their health. If you are living with a long-term health condition, or just ready to take control of your health, the team of Health and Wellbeing Coaches can give you the support you need to make healthy changes to your lifestyle.

Continence Service

If you have any problem with your bladder and/or bowel, don’t be embarrassed about getting medical help.  The symptoms can be improved and sometimes cured, often with simple methods, or if not you will be referred to the most appropriate specialist.

Screening

Breast 

Screening units do not offer drop-in screening on request. Breast screening for women aged 50-70 is by appointment only. Invitations for screening are sent automatically to women up until their 71st birthday.

Women aged 71 or over can contact their breast screening unit to make an appointment every 3 years.

Bowel Cancer

Bowel cancer screening is a test you do at home that checks for signs of bowel cancer. It's offered to everyone aged 54 to 74.

It’s your choice if you want to have bowel cancer screening. Screening does not stop you getting bowel cancer, but it is the best way to find cancer at an early stage.

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm

In England, screening for AAA is offered to men during the year they turn 65.

Men aged 65 or over are most at risk of getting AAAs. Screening can help spot a swelling in the aorta early on when it can usually be treated.

Diabetic Eye

Diabetic eye screening is a test to check for eye problems caused by diabetes. Eye problems caused by diabetes are called diabetic retinopathy. This can lead to sight loss if it's not found early. 

If you have diabetes and you're aged 12 or over, you'll get a letter asking you to have your eyes checked every 1 or 2 years.
